Hunter Wins Four Class 5A titles in Utah

Provo's Meghan Hunter had a busy two-day run at the Utah UHSAA state championships, winning four individual titles Thursday aand Friday at Clarence. F. Robison Track at BYU in Provo. FEATURE STORY

The junior won the Class 5A 800 meters on Thursday with 2:09.26, good for US#5.

Then on Friday she ran 53.14 seconds to win the 400 meters and also 12.20 to win the 100. He fourth title came in the 200 meters, where she ran 24.42. 

Ryan Raff of Lehi put together a 4:15.96/8:54.09 double to sweep the Class 4A boys distance events. His 3,200 meters performance broke Casey Clinger's Utah state meet record.

Dallin Draper of Delta also had a huge state meet, winning titles in the Class 3A 100 meters (10.53), 200 meters (21.29) and 400 (47.04). The 100 meters time matches the Utah all-time record held by Rod Wilkerson of Orem since 1997.

The 5A boys distances races were highly competititve. In the 800, four boys went under 1:55 with Brennan Benson (1:53.11) taking it from Grant Gardner, Aidan Troutner and Jima Rout (1:54.85). In the 1,600 final, Gardner won it in 4:10.90 with Troutner second (4:12.98). In the 3,200, Troutner won it in 9:03.94.

Emily Ellis led Lone Peak to the Class 6A girls title with victories in the 200 (25.07) and 400 (55.83) and sixth place in the 100. Krista Farley of Weber won the 100 (12.26) and the long jump (18-8.50).

Dominic Bentil of Lone Peak was the catalyst in his team's 6A team victory with first place finishes in the 200 (21.67) and 400 (47.76). Syracuse junior Nathan Kaufusi won the 100 meters (10.84) and finished second to Bentil in the 200 and 400. 

Lindsey Middleton of Timpview ran 14.30 to win the 5A girls 100 hurdles and also placed second in thr 300 hurdles with 45.09.

Will Prettyman from East won 5A boys titles in the 100 (10.65) and 200 (21.65) and was also second in the long jump.

Jasie York from Cedar City, a junior, won the Class 4A girls 200 (25.16), 400 (55.47) and was fourth in the 800 (2:14.20). Alissa Fielding of Mountain View won the 800 in 2:10.60 and also won the 1,600 (4:59.94).

Carter Reynolds led Desert Hills to the boys Class 4A title with victories in the 110-and 300-meter hurdles. He was also fourth in the 200. 

Sophomore Ronnie Walker from Juab won the Class 3A girls 100 (12.53) and 200 (25.87) and placed second in the long jump. 

Austin Carter of Beaver threw 64 feet to win the Class 2A shot put and 148-8 to win the discus. 

Cameron Franklin of Valley swept the Class 1A sprints, running 11.26 to take the 100, 22.59 to win the 200 and 49.56 to claim the 400. Sophomore Eli Hazlett from Grand County ran 48.13 for second place in the 400. 

Kapri Orton of Panguitch jumped 5-6 to win the 1A girls high jump and also won the 200 meters and both hurdles races.

Class 5A -- Springville boys 102 points, Corner Canyon girls 66 points

Class 4A -- Desert Hills boys 114 points, Cedar City girls 118.5 points

Class 3A -- Grand County boys 115.5 points, Juab girls 107.6 points

Class 2A -- Millard boys 115.5 points, North Summit girls 144 points

Class 1A -- Panguitch boys 134 points, Panguitch girls 172 points
