Woodhall, Clinger, Rich make final statements

Paralympic medalist Hunter Woodhall successfully defended his Class 5A title in the 400 meters and lowered his all-time Utah record to 46.24 seconds, and American Fork senior Casey Clinger added two more state titles to his haul.

Woodhall, who has signed with Arkansas, won the 200 meters in a PR time of 21.17 seconds and he won the 400 meters final by nearly two and a half seconds. His 4x400 relay team was disqualified for a bad hand-off between the first and second exchanges, a mistake that cost Syracuse a chance at the state title.

Clinger, the two-time NXN cross country champion, had a fight on his hands in the 5A 3,200 final and edged Weber's Talon Hull by .05 seconds, 8:57.90 to 8:57.95. Hull made a courageous move over the final lap and Clinger didn't overtake him until the final couple of meters. Clinger also won the 1,600 meters in a very fast 4:08.17 and edged out teammate Patrick Parker (4:09.34), Hull (4:10.20) and another teammate, McKay Johns (4:11.29).

Davis won the boys meet with 114 points and collected big chunks in the field events. Xakai Harry won the high jump (6-8) and the long jump (23-0.50) for the Darts.

Davis also won the 5A girls title with 88 points.

Emily Ellis of Lone Peak dominated the sprints. The junior won the 100 (12.30), the 200 (24.58) and 400 (54.80). Whitney Rich of Bingham won the 1,600 (4:55.39) and the 3,200 (10:39.28).

In Class 4A, Timpview's Aidan Troutner was second in the 1,600 (4:12.18) and the 3,200 (9:03.50). Haden Penrod led Springville to the team title and won the 800 (1:52.83) and the 1,600 (4:11.66).

Sophomore Will Prettyman of East won the 100 (10.90), the 200 (21.56) and the long jump (22-9.25).

Sophomore Brinn Jensen from Skyridge swept the 4A 100 (12.41), 200 (24.64) and 400 (55.95).

Senior Bradley Earl led the Desert Hills boys to the 3A title, sweeping the 100 (10.91), the 200 (21.91) and the 400 (48.06).

Junior Jaslyn Gardner of Enterprise starred in the 2A meet, winning the 100 (11.89), the 200 (24.41) and the long jump (16-10.25).  She was the state leader in the 100 and 200 this spring.
